Boy asleep in truck

We traveled to Costco to get some big items in an old work truck – I mean, no radio, no A/C, and lots of horses under the hood pulling the dual wheeled flatbed. Good time for a nap. Kids are so cute when they are asleep, and so adorably quiet! No “I want that, I don’t like that, she hit me” etc. Time alone with each of my kids is a treasure to be absorbed.

Boys’ toys

As men get older, the toys get more expensive. ~ Marvin Davis

I borrowed a friend’s work truck to pick up some large items from Costco, and my boy went with me. He dropped his car on the floor among the work stuff, and I thought it made for an interesting comparison.

Palm fruit

This stature of yours is like a palm tree,
And your breasts like its clusters.
I said, “I will go up to the palm tree,
I will take hold of its branches.”
Let now your breasts be like clusters of the vine,
The fragrance of your breath like apples,
A nd the roof of your mouth like the best wine.

~ Song of Solomon 7:7-9

Driving down the road in my home town, I saw fruit on the decorative palms that line the main roads, and was struck that they weren’t coconuts. As it turns out, different varieties of palms have different fruit, and these are probably female date palms. They may even be edible. I’ll try one and let you know.

What a girl sees

One of the interesting things about having young children with access to technology is to see what they take pictures of. My 2.5 year old took this picture of her Barbie. She LOVES the Barbie videos, which are actually much better than I would have thought – good music, decent animation. Check out her favorite song below from Barbie’s “Mermaid Tale” – starring Barbie as a Malibu surfer who discovers she’s half mermaid.

Boy at the beach

“Just as the wave cannot exist for itself, but is ever a part of the heaving surface of the ocean, so must I never live my life for itself, but always in the experience which is going on around me.” ~ Albert Schweitzer

I love giving my kids an appreciation for nature – be it the ocean, shells, or a bird’s feather. Trying to raise up smart, kind, wise children, and appreciation for the creation, and the Creator, are a big part of it.

Puncture Vines

Riding over these is how my boy got three flat tires in a week on his bike. I wised up and bought ‘puncture resistant tire tubes’ which are essentially about 3mm thick.

Bulging elevator

Tomato harvest

“It’s difficult to think anything but pleasant thoughts while eating a homegrown tomato.” ~ Lewis Grizzard

Tomato harvest is underway – in my area, lots of Italian tomatoes, here loaded into the trucks for transport from the field.

A quiet path

Aug16

“We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature – trees, flowers, grass- grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence… We need silence to be able to touch souls.” ~ Mother Teresa

I’ve taken up exercising, and three days a week, I walk the .3 miles to the gym along the Iron Horse Trail. It’s a scenic break from corporate life, and it’s directly behind my building here in San Ramon.

Roadside flowers hard pink

Perfumes are the feelings of flowers.  ~ Heinrich Heine, The Hartz Journey

These flowers remind me of azelias, but they are something different – the first pic below is the original, very bright and oversaturated – when it comes to bright light, the camera on my phone is limited.
