Haircut boy blowing balloon

A fine head of hair adds beauty to a good face, and terror to an ugly one.  ~ Lycurgus Kids look much cuter right after a haircut, and you realize how tidying up can make a difference. My boy loves to blow up balloons now that he can generate the required pressure.

Initiating the new grill

I decided to initiate the grille with beef ribs and burgers and dogs. Next week? Carne asada. Closeup below.

Dueling grills

“Grilling, broiling, barbecuing – whatever you want to call it – is an art, not just a matter of building a pyre and throwing on a piece of meat as a sacrifice to the gods of the stomach.” ~ James Bear Costco had a really nice 4-burner grill on sale for $200 this past weekend,…

Truck cab shadows

I thought that the sun coming through the back window guard was cool.

Boy asleep in truck

We traveled to Costco to get some big items in an old work truck – I mean, no radio, no A/C, and lots of horses under the hood pulling the dual wheeled flatbed. Good time for a nap. Kids are so cute when they are asleep, and so adorably quiet! No “I want that, I…

Boys’ toys

As men get older, the toys get more expensive. ~ Marvin Davis I borrowed a friend’s work truck to pick up some large items from Costco, and my boy went with me. He dropped his car on the floor among the work stuff, and I thought it made for an interesting comparison.

Palm fruit

This stature of yours is like a palm tree, And your breasts like its clusters. I said, “I will go up to the palm tree, I will take hold of its branches.” Let now your breasts be like clusters of the vine, The fragrance of your breath like apples, A nd the roof of your…

What a girl sees

One of the interesting things about having young children with access to technology is to see what they take pictures of. My 2.5 year old took this picture of her Barbie. She LOVES the Barbie videos, which are actually much better than I would have thought – good music, decent animation. Check out her favorite…

Boy at the beach

“Just as the wave cannot exist for itself, but is ever a part of the heaving surface of the ocean, so must I never live my life for itself, but always in the experience which is going on around me.” ~ Albert Schweitzer I love giving my kids an appreciation for nature – be it…

An explosion of mold

Sometimes, stuff that grows in the fridge can be amazing. This mold was cool.

Flowers in the bucket

These flowers look better in the picture than in real life, but they fill the decorative buckets outside of my workplace. Nice mix.

Puncture Vines

Riding over these is how my boy got three flat tires in a week on his bike. I wised up and bought ‘puncture resistant tire tubes’ which are essentially about 3mm thick.

Bulging elevator

“When I was little, my grandfather used to make me stand in a closet for five minutes without moving. He said it was elevator practice.” ~ Stephen Wright

Tomato harvest

“It’s difficult to think anything but pleasant thoughts while eating a homegrown tomato.” ~ Lewis Grizzard Tomato harvest is underway – in my area, lots of Italian tomatoes, here loaded into the trucks for transport from the field.
